Nursing Humor: The 9 Types of Nurses you Probably Know
IN 2012, THERE WERE OVER 2.5 MILLION registered nurses in the United States alone according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the number keeps on growing. With that being said, there are several types of nurses within each specific healthcare practice.
Here are 9 types of nurses that we think are common, amazing and hilarious. And of course each and everyone is a quintessential part of the nursing family!
9 Different Types of Nurses
1. The no fun and games nurse 
These nurses are strictly “business”. They definitely don’t mess around or engage in the break room shenanigans (as if there are really any breaks when it comes to being a nurse). This is the nurse that people are somewhat intimidated by just because of the simple lack of wit that most of the nurses within the hospital or healthcare facility possess. The “don’t mess with” nurse you sometimes wish you could be for the day.
2. The mother of all nurses
A few years from retirement and countless years of experience, “mother nurse” has seen it all. This is the nurse you go to for questions when you feel like getting a raw, real answer (and without getting reprimanded!). These wise nurses may lack the spunk and energy of a baby nurse (see below), but are an essential component to the nursing team.
3. The baby of all nurses
Every nurse was once a “baby nurse”. Just hired, fresh from nursing school, the baby nurse is always feeling a little stressed (who wouldn’t?). The baby nurse is actually kind of like an actual toddler in ways, taking its first steps and doing the majority of their learning through experience, with that extra push from his or her family of more experienced nurses. Be kind and helpful to the baby nurses!
4. The fashionista nurse
This nurse always has new scrubs, filled with the latest patterns, cuts and functionality. Their stethoscope is adorned and fashionably clipped onto the side pocket of their brand new Halloween (insert season accordingly) top. We wonder what their closet actually looks like (and their laundry!). Is it all scrubs? Can we borrow some?
5. The overly caffeinated nurse
Maybe this nurse should actually be called the “willing nurse”, because let’s face it: all nurses are probably overly caffeinated. This is the nurse that will eagerly take your shift, work doubles, holidays and extra shifts. Can we have some of your energy?
6. The hangry nurse
Hangry: When you are so hungry that your hunger causes you to feel angry and frustrated.
The “hangry nurse” is always complaining that he or she is hungry and low on energy. If not complaining, is probably in the break room eating a snack, but it’s OK because somehow, the “hangry nurse” always gets his or her work done. And brings donuts.
7. The ready-to-party nurse
This is one of our favorite types of nurses, as this nurse is always looking for the party. This nurse will often ask questions like: “When’s the next potluck?” or “Are we doing Secret Santa this year?” This nurse keeps us feeling young.
8. The TV drama nurse
This nurse may or may not be obsessed with medical TV dramas. One too many episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and this nurse is just looking for drama. This nurse also keeps us young, the high school drama vibes just never end, but we kind of like it.
9. The overly ahead nurse
This nurse is so ambitious that you wonder what he or she does during free time. This nurse is always a step ahead with the latest medical news and technology. In fact, this nurse is your source of news because you just don’t have the time that this nurse has.
